These are just some observational drawing’s I did of random objects around my house.
Iv’e chosen the image above in particular because from what iv’e seen this encapsulates what his work is all about. I like his use of bright vibrant colours to make his work come to life. I also like the way the buildings don’t look like they are made from solid brick, they almost look like rubber, i think this is because of his use of big curved lines. Another thing i enjoy is the way he incorporates text into a lot of his work, he has a little description of where he was and why he was there and i think it’s a nice touch.
Here are some more pieces i liked:
This piece shows his use of curved lines again.
My favourite thing about this sketch is all the stickers on the road sign.
In one of our earlier crafts and media tech lessons Gareth showed us how to draw 3D shape’s on a 2D plane.
The shapes we was drawing was the basic primitives which are the most simple geometric shapes they are spheres, cubes, cylinders, cones, pyramids, donuts, extruded cubes. It’s worth while to learn how to draw these because they are the building blocks for nearly anything else you would want to draw.
Since i created a level and didn’t have an enemy for it i decided to sketch one up really quick..
The enemies in my game are going to be objects in the real world merged with things from the evil dimension. For example this spiked flower pot seen above. I also have some other idea’s for the enemies that will be inside the house like an evil toaster or TV, which will be quite funny.
This is the character design sheet i was doing for my first character ‘Calder Gibbons’ that i was working on a while back and for some reason has taken me ages to finish. So the first thing i did was to obviously draw it, which is shown below
I then scanned it onto my computer and opened it up in photoshop to colour in and it was one of the first techniques i learned on the course, to colour line art.
I then finally added a background to it and it was finished…
I’m pretty happy with how its turned out and wont be editing this design further. One thing i would change when doing one in the future though is that i wouldn’t write the character details, i would just wait until i put it into photoshop and add them then but other then that i like it.
So after i finished my level structure for my casual game i decided to design one of the levels. The level i have chosen is the first level which is the tutorial level, i chose this level to make things a little easier for myself because it wont be as complected as some of the other levels and it will be the level i attempt to create in flash. So i started drawing my garden level but i couldn’t even think of what is in a garden so i looked at some images of gardens on Google and started making a list of assets…
- Kids Toy’s
After i made my little list i started drawing the level again and came up with this.
It’s pretty basic but it’s the tutorial level so will just show the player how to play the game.
I then designed it in SketchUp and put it into to Photoshop to add some annotations.
Finally i coloured in the design and made everything a bit more detailed and this is what i plan for my flash game to look like if i can manage it.
I’ve decided to create a level structure for my casual game ‘Lazy Larry’ because i wanted to design a level so this helps me chose which one to do and it just adds a bit of extra detail to the game.
Level 1: Garden (Tutorial)
Level 1-1: Garden
Level 2: Kitchen
Level 2-1: Kitchen
Level 3: Dining Room
Level 3-1: Dining Room
Level 4: Living Room
Level 4-1: Living Room
Level 5: Bathroom
Level 5-1: Bathroom
Level 6: Bedroom
Level 6-1: Bedroom
Level 7: Landing
Level 8: Attic
Level 8-1: Attic
Level 8-2: Attic
Just to explain why the levels are like this i will explain a bit of the story of ‘Lazy Larry’. So you play as Larry an average lazy guy and one day whilst watching TV you hear a noise in the attic so you go to investigate. You’ve been looking around the attic for a little bit and then you see a mysterious box, you’ve never seen it before and it has loads of strange markings on it. After looking at it for a little bit you decide to open it and all manner of hell starts spilling out, you try to close it but before you can a box hits you on the head and you get knocked unconscious, you wake up in your front garden.
So Larry’s goal is to get to the attic and close the mysterious box that has merged his house with an evil dimension, that’s why he has to go through all these rooms to get to the attic.
This is just a quick sketch i did to show the rout the player take. As you can see after the initial garden levels the player can choose between three levels to go next. They do have to complete all three levels to progress though they just get to choose the order.
