After doing my proposal and research for my building, I started drawing up some ideas for what I want it to look like, here are some drawings I did:
Ignore some of the other notes.
This is a more touched up version of my design with some notes.
I then did a quick version of it in sketchup to help me visualize it, I’m going to do a more detailed one with the correct measurements before I start modeling it in 3DS Max.
Following my building proposal for ‘the street’ project I went out into Withernsea to get some more reference images and ideas for what my building could look like, i got the following images:
These are some other images I got:
From these images and my own ideas I will draw up my designs and maybe create a quick example of it in google sketchup, before finally modelling it in 3ds Max.
I’m really pleased with how the final map has turned out and i think it all came together really well in the end. So when we broke up for Christmas we arranged for everyone to finish a certain section of the map so everyone got a chance and all the work wasn’t burdened on one person. My job was to design the church and put together the section before the church which can be seen in a previous post. Then when we came back everyone had finished there section so all that was left was to put it all together and this is the final outcome. If we had a little more time we would of liked to add more little details and textures to the map to make it feel more real for example guttering and rubbish in the streets. Another thing that we could of done with more time would be to add different house designs, I do think we have good variation of houses but more would of been better. But as i said earlier i am very happy with how the map turned out.
This is the church i designed for our group project map…
I’m pretty pleased with how it turned out in the end and think it will look good when put onto the map with all the other buildings we created.
Just before the Christmas break we started putting the our map together in SketchUp using the buildings we all created. We took it in turns to build up the map but then realised we wouldn’t finish it so had to delegate tasks for each person to do over the break. This is how far we got before the break…
I got given this section to do over the break, i had to create the church and then place some of the buildings for the alleys before the church yard:
So after i finished my level structure for my casual game i decided to design one of the levels. The level i have chosen is the first level which is the tutorial level, i chose this level to make things a little easier for myself because it wont be as complected as some of the other levels and it will be the level i attempt to create in flash. So i started drawing my garden level but i couldn’t even think of what is in a garden so i looked at some images of gardens on Google and started making a list of assets…
- Kids Toy’s
After i made my little list i started drawing the level again and came up with this.
It’s pretty basic but it’s the tutorial level so will just show the player how to play the game.
I then designed it in SketchUp and put it into to Photoshop to add some annotations.
Finally i coloured in the design and made everything a bit more detailed and this is what i plan for my flash game to look like if i can manage it.
This is a level i created in Google Sketchup and i had a racing game in mind so i created it to look like a city and then the player would follow the road and be able to collect power ups along the way. I also added a few different ways the player could go and the harder the root they took the more power ups they could collect. its a technique we was shown in a crafts and media technologies session.
After i had finished the design i started to add detail and textures but it’s no way near completed and i may develop it further in the future if i have the time.
These are some of the buildings i have been making for our level design project, I’ve made a few different ones because when i was just using one building it looked stupid being the same building copied and pasted over and over again, it didn’t look real. My buildings along with the other buildings the members of my group have made (Barry, Mark and Scott) will all be going on to our map we created before to create our level.
I gave all my buildings a run down look because our game/level is meant to be set in 1888 Whitechapel London which was a very poor area at the time.
For our group project we created a to scale layout of our level in Google Sketchup, as shown below…
Final layout with key
Then we put it into Photoshop to add the key so we and others know what is going on in the level. We may decide to change the layout or tweak little things with it but we are happy with it at the moment.
We was taught and shown how to create vehicles very quickly using Google SketchUp. We used the 3D warehouse to import already created vehicles and then used parts from each vehicle to create something new. When importing a vehicle it comes as a full group so you cant select certain parts of it which you need to do so you have to select it and then go to edit, explode and this lets you select certain parts of the vehicle. We was asked to create a spaceship using a car or a bike so i created this….
I took a Volkswagen camper van and added wings from a plane, a anti aircraft turret, jets from a spaceship and a couch. And after i put it all together i painted it silver to make it look like it could go into space. I think this is a good technique to create a unique vehicle that could be used in a game, for example this vehicle could be used in some sort of space wacky racing game. As you can see from the images some of the parts I’ve attached aren’t in the center or level with there counter part so next time i use this technique i will keep that in mind.
