Did these a while ago now but forgot to post them, these are some of the floor plans for my lodge I designed and was contemplating moving forward with..
All the layouts are open plan with large ceilings, I decided that I liked the first plan the best so took it into photoshop to rework it.
On further inspection I thought the straight design would make it difficult to break the building up and may look very bare so I decided to go with another design.
With this design I can break up the building into sections to produce in case I don’t finish the entire building. See below.
I also designed some quick exteriors to help me during production.
After doing my proposal and research for my building, I started drawing up some ideas for what I want it to look like, here are some drawings I did:
Ignore some of the other notes.
This is a more touched up version of my design with some notes.
I then did a quick version of it in sketchup to help me visualize it, I’m going to do a more detailed one with the correct measurements before I start modeling it in 3DS Max.
I had a lot of idea’s for what i wanted to do with my ident, a lot of them pretty unrealistic. Initially i had the idea that the orchid would be falling to the ground, decaying like it was dying and then hitting the floor breaking apart fully, blowing away and then revealing the name black orchid games. This is the storyboard i did for it:
After using adobe after effects i realised it wouldn’t be possible to create it so i had to come up with some other idea’s. I created a few practice ident’s to help me think of an idea…
Another practice can be found here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-HcjYLzjK6c
I didn’t have an idea for my final piece yet so i decided to draw up some logo’s to inspire me:
I preferred the bottom right logo, of it been in a journal because i have previously mentioned something similar to this in my post about the typeface for my company name. So i designed something similar to that for my final ident:
I’m reasonably happy with my final product, i may tweak it a little bit in the future if i have time but for now it’s okay. If i do have the time though i would change the pen sound to make it match a bit more with the writing i would also make the end longer so you can see the full logo properly.
I was looking around at multiple artists on the Urban Sketchers website, which is what it sounds like really, its a website with multiple artists on who sketch urban environments. There are around 100 artists on the websites and they are located all over the world, i looked at various different artists and then came across Paul Heaston and i enjoyed his work so i looked into it more. He has a lot of observational sketches and these are a few i liked in particular:
What drew me towards Paul Heaston’s over some of the other artists i looked at was his use of perspectives, its shown really well with the sketch in the car. I found out that it was called fish eye perspective drawing and he uses for a lot of his sketches. I also like the way he doesn’t use any colour in his sketches and his use of lines for shading, pretty much all of the shading in his sketches are built up lines, i assume this is probably because he uses pen to draw but it gives it a really nice effect. Another thing i like about his sketches are that in some of them he includes himself drawing as he is drawing, i think this might be the fish eye perspective but I’m not sure.
*I later found out/Realised that fish eye perspective is the same as on cameras to give you a wider shot.
