Before blocking out my map/environment in UDK I did some simple designs, I already had the idea of the map being on a piece of land on a cliff face separated from the mainland so a bridge would be needed..
The following design is the final design I went for..
I chose this design because it was more simple then some of the others and I liked the fact it has a little Island in between so 2 bridges are needed. I then took this design and put it into Photoshop so I could add more detail and a key to make it a bit clearer..
From here I will create a blockout in UDK and create some quick meshes in 3DS max for the buildings.
