Following on from my map designs I started creating my blockout in UDK, to do this I have been using the landscape tool and watched some YouTube tutorials and read some information about initially getting started with the tool as I have only used the Terrain tool before.
This is the landscape edit menu, this is where you create your initial landscape, I started with an overall size of 127×127 because I read that this is one of the recommended sizes to start with.
Once you have set your size you create your landscape and can start painting in detail with the various tools.
I tried to keep the landscape as similar as possible to the designs I had created.
Once I was happy I started importing and placing some simple blockout meshes I had created in 3DS max.
Once I placed all the buildings in roughly the correct place I started creating colour materials and placing them on the corresponding building according to my key.
My next step for my project is to start researching architecture and assets to start designing and creating my primary assets, I’ve done some game research into this but I also want to look at some real life examples.
