Kevin Duc is a concept designer who specializes in environments, props and weapon design. He currently works for gearbox studios and has previously worked for some other game development companies, that’s how I came across him because I was looking for environment designs for borderlands 2, which is a game I really like the art style of and he was one of the artists who worked on it. I like the cartoon but real at the same time art style of his work and you can see why he has worked on Borderlands 2. I also enjoy his use of vibrant colours, a lot of bright purples and oranges mixed with the darker themes in the art itself, this is especially shown in the swamp artwork where it is mixing technology with wildlife, which are two environments that aren’t normally mixed. The first piece of artwork for the swamp scene would be a great place for a firefight in a game, with waves and waves of enemies coming towards you as you defend the city.
I thought i would also show one of his weapon design sheets from Borderlands 2 because i think they are really good. I like the way he shows all of the gun parts separately.
