One of the most famous animation studios is DreamWorks, an American based company responsible for the franchises of Shrek, Madagascar and Kung Fu Panda. With it’s fame comes a famous logo, It’s the half crescent moon with the boy sat on it fishing and then the company name underneath which I’m everyone knows.
The reason this ident is so well known and remembered other then because the company itself is so successful but because of the logo animations. There all different depending on what film it is before, a lot of them are quite funny as well for example the one for bee movie shows the boy floating up to the half crescent moon with balloons and then a bee chasing him and then he ends up falling and the been sits in the moon instead. Another good one is for Madagascar where the penguins beat up the boy and take his place fishing. It’s not really changed too much over the years apart from the difference in look from film to film. This is one of my favorite opening animations to a film and you instantly recognize it when you see it, the only one that may be more famous is the Disney pixar lamp.
I think the brief for this logo or identity would of been to make it simple but unique and loosely related to the name of the company, something that is very easy to remember which is probably what is expected from all logo’s. I think it’s aimed at kids with the funny animations and that’s the reason its a boy fishing as well. The logo relates to the name of the company because when you think of dreaming you would think of the night sky and the moon and in the case for a lot of films it can be like a dream because they are make believe.
